Who wants to see my book cover?

This is totally not even a real post. I’m just the most excited and want to show you all my book cover because I have permission to share it with you right now. I KNOW! Are we the most excited? I know I am. I saw it for the first time on Saturday, and this is the final-final edit. This is what you will see if/when you buy my book and you hold it in your hot little hand and/or look at it on your e-reader screen. I KNOW!

You can click to make it bigger and read all the texty-text, I think.

Did you? Did you click? Probably you were all, “that cover photo is GORGEOUS, where did you GET it?” Well, if you clicked, you already know, but if you didn’t, I will totally tell you. A couple of months ago, Jenn (my wonderful publisher over at Luna Station Press) asked if I had any ideas for the cover. And I’d been kicking around an idea, but I wasn’t sure if she’d like it. So I said, “I do have this idea…I have this friend who’s just an amazing photographer. And I think his photos would fit really well with the title I chose. I was thinking of asking him if he’d be interested in providing a photo for the cover. Is that something we can do?”

Jenn immediately emailed back all “Yes, ask him, photos FTW!” Whew. Good. Sometimes I get ideas and I THINK they’re good, but then I tell them to someone else and they’re all, “Um…are you on the crack cocaine, Amy?”

So I emailed Ken and put forth my proposition and even though he is INSANELY busy getting a whole damn NEWSPAPER off the ground, he was 197,000% on board. Have I mentioned lately how fantastic Ken is? What’s that? Yes, I have? Who cares, Charlie, I’m doing it again. Ken is AMAZING, you guys. He took time out of GETTING A NEWSPAPER UP AND RUNNING to do this for me. And when the photo needed to be retaken? He totally went out and did it AGAIN. (Thank you, Ken. Thank you, Ken. THANK YOU KEN.)

And then Jenn worked her magic and put in the photo of me (and I don’t even look like a kook!) and is it not the most gorgeous thing you’ve ever seen? I mean, sincerely. I’m biased, it’s true, but look at that cover! That cover photo could not be more perfect there. I am so happy with it. I seriously think I’ve opened up this JPEG about fifty times since Saturday just to look at it and grin and spin around a little.

So, there it is! Goes on sale August 1! Less than 3 weeks away! I can’t wait for you all to read it! Eeeee!

Thank you! :) I can’t even tell you, I opened the photo Saturday and I sat there at the computer all, “That’s my book cover. That’s my book cover. MY BOOK COVER.” And may have gotten a little weepy myself.

Isn’t that photo gorgeous? I mean, I knew whatever he came up with would be, but WHOA.

Amy, this is so beautiful, that if I knew nothing about you at all, but just randomly found your book on a shelf, I would read it – if only for that gorgeous cover. I am all the more excited because I do know you a little bit. I can’t wait to read it!

Now YOU have a book and KEN has a book cover! This is WIN-WIN! Classic win-win!

You have a Creative Writing degree? What does that even mean? That’s a thing? I like it.

I totally agree. It’s a win-win. I’m very mercenary and if it meant that I a., got a gorgeous book cover out of it and b., got wider publicity for Ken’s amazing photography, I could see no downside to that. None at all. Plus I got to work with Ken. It was a win all around.

It’s a useless piece of paper that I’m still paying for and will be until I’m old and gray. I got to take a lot of classes where people critiqued my poetry. That’s pretty much it. I had fun, but it’s not overly marketable.

Oh, jeez. OK, I have an explanation for why I didn’t get this. I don’t see the comments under where they were posted, so I was confused by the context. Also, somehow I missed the quotes. That’s on me, though, and not Jim’s fault. I was just re-reading it and I was like, “WAIT A MINUTE I’M A DUMBASS!” I totally lose all the points. Sorry, sorry.

sorry. . . “pop culture” non sequitur. Charlie Brown goes trick or treating with his friends. After every house they compare goodies. . . lollipop, gum, tootsie roll, I don’t exactly remember what everyone ELSE got, but inevitably whenever the circle rounds to Charlie, he looks in his bag and says, “I got a rock.”

I was playing Charlie Brown to your Lucy and Ken’s. . . I don’t know. . . Pig Pen? Linus? Schroeder? Anyway, you got your book, Ken got his cover. . . I got a rock.

        :)

Amy, you rock. I’m digging everything! I really like that typeface for the title. It kinda thumbs its nose at the fancy, seriffy, hoity-toity poetry books you typically see. Photo is spot-on! Bravo!

THAT Ken??? Hey, I know him! Sort of. And I know you! I TOTALLY KNOW A PUBLISHED AUTHOR! That makes me all excited in all my parts, but not in an icky way. I’m just so, so happy for you and proud that I know you and I CAN’T WAIT TO HOLD THAT GORGEOUS BOOK IN MY HOT LITTLE HANDS. Because I have to have it, and I have to have pages that I can turn in my actual hands, no e-reader for me, and after I’ve read it over and over and showed it to all my people and they ask if they can borrow it and I say, no way, this is MINE, get your own you mooch, I will put it on my SHELF in a VERY PROMINENT PLACE and when people say, what’s that? a new book? and I will say YES, it was written my friend BRILLIANT FRIEND AMY and they will think I am totally bullshitting but this time I won’t be.

Aw, yay! Thank you so much! I am so excited I can’t even sit still. It’s kind of insane. And yes! That Ken! He’s amazing, right? Isn’t it gorgeous? I’m so in love with it. I’m so buying multiple copies for myself and I’ll carry them around and read them and when people are all, “Whatcha readin’?” I’ll say, “Oh, nothing, just MY GORGEOUS AMAZING BOOK I WROTE, that’s all!” :)

What a beautiful cover! I am so excited for you and cannot wait to purchase your book. Some day, I want to grow up and be like you (this is serious, btw. I’ve always wanted to publish but I thought that you had to either *know* people or be really, really lucky. You did it!). I am so proud to say that I read your blog.

Thank you! I love it so much. I just can’t stop looking at it.

I think you might have to know someone, or be lucky – and I was lucky enough for both (my publisher is a friend of mine I met on Twitter, so if anyone says Twitter sucks, they can bite me!) :)

It is more than luck. You’ve worked hard to get where you are. If you hadn’t “networked” on Twitter or didn’t write constantly to perfect your craft, it might not have happened. :)

I love the cover! It’s just perfect. And Ken’s photo is a really great one; so beautiful and.. I don’t know.. longing, somehow?

I would comment on how well the cover fits the content of your book, but alas I don’t know. Yet.

Andreas, I love you. And this is why. (Well, ONE of the reasons why. There are many more. Of course.)

About a month ago, Ken and I were discussing photos. And he sent me a TON of gorgeous photos. Like, you can’t even imagine. And I had to decide. This was not an easy task. I had it narrowed down to three that I was madly in love with. So we were discussing options, and I was like, “KEN. I CANNOT CHOOSE THIS IS TOO HARD.” And he asked me to give him a brief synopsis as to what the book was about (no, he hasn’t read it, either. The only person who has – well, who’s read the whole thing, all the way through – is my publisher, and I think a fellow poet she works with. Some people have read some of the poems here and there, but that’s it.) Anyway, Tangent McGee, I know, sorry, I couldn’t really give him a synopsis, because it doesn’t have a theme. But I said, “I can give you three words that best describe it.” Guess what one of the words was?

      Longing.

Thank you, Andreas. You made my day. I chose the correct image. You’re the best.
